Before focusing on writing full time, my career as a software development program manager filled my days with planning, meetings, and business writing. A large portion of my job required understanding people, their motivations, their needs. But my dream of writing a novel gnawed at me. I created character profiles, sometimes based on people I met in business: the high-powered executive who spoke in metaphors, or the always cheerful receptionist who may have a hidden past. In my spare time, I crafted stories about women facing obstacles in their own quests: to find a romantic partner, to help a stranger they couldn’t forget, to become a mother. I would drive home from work thinking about my characters and their dilemmas. Today, I spend my days writing, walking with my husband and our two dogs, Cooper and Cody, and discovering new places.

Growing up in the house my father inherited from an uncle, I loved scouring boxes of old photographs of the people who came before me and wondered what their lives must have been like. My imagination flourished when I found mementos like the love letters my grandfather sent to my grandmother in the 1920s.

When I was eight or so, I created intricate stories about my dolls. I would build equally complex worlds for them from spare things around the house. The slide viewfinder made a perfect television. The rubber corners from packing material turned into a lovely sofa. As I got older, my fascination with people and their stories continued. I started to write down my ideas.

Today, I am dedicated to writing character-driven stories with humor, poignancy, and hope.

I am inspired by everyday life, its humor, and its mystery. Sitting on a train, I imagine stories about the man sitting across from me, or the woman pacing the aisle. I love writing character-driven fiction and filling in the details of what makes a character take action. Building a world around my characters is exciting and I enjoy finding buildings, roads, and landscapes that bring my novel to life.

I am currently working on a follow-up novel to In the Name of Maloney, where the young child is now twenty. He struggles with his own identity as an American and Russian. The story begins when he decides to trace his roots in Russia during the current Ukraine-Russian War.
